Kanye West is being tipped to become the new creative director for Louis Vuitton, according to reports. The Sun and DailyMail both report that an anonymous source has said that Kanye and Virgil Abloh had been planning the move before Virgil's death.
Kanye is said to be "devastated" by Virgil's death and has decided to pick up the pieces and continue his work for Louis Vuitton. Despite claims of 'fake news' being rampant on social media, the reports have been backed by fashion insiders who say there is no smoke without fire.
A source told DailyMail: "Kanye is devastated about Virgil’s death because they had been friends for years and worked together a lot. They shared a similar vision and now Kanye feels he owes it to Virgil to continue his work at Louis Vuitton."
Kanye is no stranger to the fashion world, having previously showcased his own line of clothing - Yeezy - at New York Fashion Week. He has also collaborated with different fashion houses on collections over the years. The 'Life of Pablo' singer is now said to be looking at doing more limited editions, inspired by both men's interest in clothing lines and graphics.
Another source told The Sun: "Kanye is one of the few people who understands the corporate structure required to be a success in the high fashion world, as well as being a masterful creative mind who is capable of true innovation.
"He has achieved nothing short of greatness already throughout his life and understands the importance of surrounding himself with those who have the same drive and ambition to be successful."
The rapper's friend Virgil Abloh died earlier this year aged 41. He was the founder of fashion label Off-White and had been appointed the artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton in March 2018. Abloh was the first black designer to hold the role at the French fashion house.Louis Vuitton has declined to comment on the reports.
