As far as coffee goes, there are two camps. To some it's a drink and nothing more. They might just pour themselves a cup from the pot whenever they want to have one - or maybe even grab a cup at their local cafe when they're running late for work. If you know someone like this, then chances are that in their cupboard you'll find their coffee-mug collection. Not a set of fine china or over the top souvenir pieces, but just cheap plain white mugs that do the job and get washed every day.

For others, this is more than mere drink. This is something to be savored - and to make sure you're doing it right, you need the perfect mug for the job. It all starts with the coffee (obviously) and when you're choosing your roast and grinding it fresh each time then that alone is going to make a difference in how it tastes. The water temperature is also important - but once again, if you don't have a thermometer to be sure, then the coffee mug you use will affect the temperature too.

Now, think for a moment about the finest cup of coffee you've ever had. Not just something from your local cafe - but your personal best brew. Something that made you close your eyes and savor every last drop...

Why was it so good? Was the coffee itself delicious enough to stand on its own, or was there something else that made it stand out?

For many people, the reason why their coffee is so memorable is because of the mug they were drinking it from. Not just any old cup would do - as they once again saw in a display window or on their favorite TV show and had to have one for themselves. A well designed cup that was hand crafted and had a certain style to it...

When you're choosing your mug, think back over those great cups of coffee that you've been lucky enough to taste. Then when the time comes for you to buy something new, make sure it's not just functional - but also beautiful too.
