Following his appointment as KENZO's Artistic Director in late 2018, NIGO debuted his first collection for the French luxury fashion house with the Fall/Winter 2022 Women's and Men's collections. The streetwear legend delivered a “real-to-wear" expression that blends KENZO's history with contemporary codes as the first Japanese designer to front the house since its founder Kenzo Takada.

Returning to the Galerie Vivienne in Paris, Kenzo Takada's first exhibition (“Jungle Jap”) was held there in 1970, NIGO ushered in a new era for the label. Set to NIGO’s upcoming I Know NIGO album featuring A$AP Rocky, Cam'ron and Pharrell Williams, the show, set to his new album’s tracks, was a nod to NIGO’s life spent in France. For example, models wore a little black dress that pays homage to Takada’s iconic leopard-print designs and a white poncho with a subtle tiger motif gives a salute to KENZO’s “Tiger Jacket.”

The new collection is vibrant, but not too cutesy, featuring bright blues and oranges offset against beige tones for the Western-inspired looks while tiger print motifs are seen across coats, knitwear, sweaters and T-shirts. A standout was a black sweatshirt with “I Know NIGO” emblazoned on the front. A painterly approach was taken for the look book images, shot by photographer Eric Kvatek.

NIGO’s collection is set to hit KENZO boutiques starting June 2022.

NIGO has always been a fan of KENZO, so it is no surprise that he was tapped to take the helm. His collection can be seen as a celebration of his life-long love for the French house and its founder. Beyond just showcasing his affinity for KENZO’s aesthetic, NIGO also gives back to Japan by donating all proceeds from the new KENZO x NIGO t-shirts to disaster relief efforts following 2018’s Hokkaido earthquake.“I first saw Kenzo Takada’s show at Galerie Vivienne, and it made an enormous impression on me,” said NIGO in a statement.
