The Troubled Life & Post Death Art Success of Jean-Michel Basquiat

Jean-Michel Basquiat was one of the most influential artists of his generation. His unique style combined elements of graffiti, Pop Art, and African American culture. Unfortunately, Basquiat's life was plagued by addiction and mental health issues, which ultimately led to his untimely death at the age of 27.

After Basquiat's death, his work experienced a surge in popularity and value. His paintings have sold for millions of dollars at auction, making him one of the most successful post-death artists in history.

Basquiat was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1960. He was of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent. As a child, Basquiat was interested in art and poetry, and he began spray painting graffiti around New York City at the age of 14.

The collage "Glen 1984" is displayed at the media view for "Basquiat: Boom for Real", the first large-scale exhibition in the UK of the work of American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat at the Barbican Art Gallery in London, Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017. Over 100 works are displayed in the exhibition from the artist who came of age in the late 1970s underground art and graffiti scene in New York and died aged 27 in 1988. (AP Photo/Matt Dunham)

In the early 1980s, Basquiat became associated with the downtown New York art scene. He collaborated with other artists, including Andy Warhol, and his paintings were exhibited in some of the city's most prestigious galleries.

Basquiat's work often featured images of African American history and culture, as well as social commentary on issues like racism and poverty. His unique style earned him international acclaim, and he quickly became one of the most successful young artists of his generation.

However, Basquiat's life was also marked by tragedy. He battled addiction and mental health issues for much of his life. In 1988, Basquiat died of a heroin overdose at the age of 27.

Basquiat's death was a shock to the art world. His work had been gaining in popularity and value in the years leading up to his death, and his untimely passing only added to his mystique. In the years since Basquiat's death, his work has continued to rise in value. His paintings have sold for tens of millions of dollars at auction, making him one of the most successful post-death artists in history. Basquiat is now considered one of the most important and influential artists of his generation.

Basquiat’s Infamous Party Habits And Girlfriends

Basquiat was known for his wild and extravagant lifestyle. He loved to throw lavish parties, and often invited many famous friends and celebrities. Basquiat's parties were always a blast, but they could also be quite chaotic. He was known for having very messy parties, and often times there would be broken glass and spilled drinks everywhere. Basquiat also had a reputation for being a bit of a ladies' man. He was often seen with different women, and he was known for his many relationships with famous models and actresses. Basquiat's party habits and girlfriends were just as famous as his art.

Alexis Adler

When they lived together in 1978, his girlfriend Alexis Adler was able to witness his creative process up close. She has remarked, "He was just ransacking the flat. He used to paint with his feet because he couldn't find a brush. And he would use his hands and smear the paint all over the walls."

Mariel Hemingway

Basquiat had a brief but intense relationship with actress Mariel Hemingway in 1984. Hemingway has said that Basquiat was "like a force of nature. He burned very brightly, and he burned out very quickly."

Madonna

In 1985, Basquiat had a brief but passionate affair with Madonna. Madonna has said that Basquiat was "an amazing lover. He was just so wild and free and passionate."

Suzanne Mallouk

Basquiat was also involved with Suzanne Mallouk, a model and actress. The two met in 1987 and had a brief but intense relationship. Mallouk has said that Basquiat was "like a drug. He was just so addictive and so exciting."

Fiona Golfar

In 1984, Vogue's future editor-at-large hosted Basquiat at her house. Her experience was reminiscent of when she entertained him: "I felt slightly nervous," she says. She continues, "He was this wild, untamed animal." "I remember he jumped on the sofa and started painting it with a can of aerosol  blue paint."

Basquiat & Warhol: An Unlikely Friendship In Art History

Basquiat and Warhol were two of the most important and influential artists of their time. They were also good friends.

As two artistic luminaries from different eras, two legendary creative minds of the era, and two excellent friends, Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana were an unlikely match. They would establish one of the most significant artist-artist relationships in history. The wildly experimental Basquiat and Warhol, the founding father of Pop art, emerged from different generations and backgrounds. However, in just six years and a profoundly intimate though tumultuous friendship, the mutual respect and adulation that Basquiat and Warhol had for one another inspired two separately iconic bodies of work that are now eternally emblazoned in the annals of art history.

Basquiat was a young, Neo-Expressionist artist who emerged from the graffiti scene in downtown Manhattan. Warhol, on the other hand, was an established Pop artist and the founder of the movement. When they first met in 1980, Basquiat was a 22-year-old unknown and Warhol was a 56-year-old art world heavyweight. But the two soon bonded over their shared love of making art and their similar senses of humor.

They would go on to collaborate on a number of projects, including paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Warhol helped Basquiat gain wider recognition in the art world, while Basquiat helped Warhol to connect with a younger generation of artists.

Their friendship was not without its ups and downs, however. Basquiat was known to be jealous of Warhol's success, and Warhol was often critical of Basquiat's work. But in the end, their mutual respect and admiration for one another's work was evident.

In 1986, just two years before Warhol's death, the two artists collaborated on a series of paintings that would come to be known as the "Paintings Based on Photographs of Debbie Harry." This series was a departure from Warhol's usual style, and it is widely considered to be one of his finest works. Basquiat and Warhol's friendship was an important and unique artistic collaboration that resulted in some of the most iconic art of the 20th century. Their story is a testament to the power of friendship, and it serves as a reminder that great things can come from unlikely places.

Selling NFTs as Investment Assets

To begin selling an NFT, you'll need to "mint" one of your digital assets as an NFT, or non-fungible token, a type of digital certificate generated on a blockchain network. One of the primary benefits of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) is that they can be used as investment assets. In fact, some believe that NFTs may eventually become a more popular investment vehicle than traditional stocks and shares.

So, how can you go about selling NFTs as investment assets? Here are a few tips:

  • Make sure that the NFTs are easily tradeable. The last thing you want is for buyers to have difficulty exchanging or selling their tokens. Ideally, the NFTs should be listed on a reputable crypto exchange.
  • Make sure that the underlying blockchain is stable and secure. This is especially important if you plan on holding the NFTs for a long period of time. Buyers will want to know that their investment is safe and secure.
  • Provide clear and concise documentation. buyers need to be able to understand exactly what they're buying, and how it works. Make sure to include everything from how to access the tokens to what the associated risks are.
  • Offer a good return on investment. This is obviously key if you want buyers to take your NFTs seriously as an investment vehicle. Make sure to set realistic expectations, and be prepared to offer bonuses for early investors.
  • Be patient. It may take some time for buyers to warm up to the idea of investing in NFTs. But with a solid marketing strategy and a little bit of luck, you should be able to attract some serious interest.Selling NFTs as investment assets can be a great way to generate income and build your portfolio. By following the tips above, you'll be well on your way to success.

Kim Kardashian Struts First Prada Show Wrapped in Yellow Balenciaga Tape

Not so quickly. On Sunday, the reality star-turned entrepreneur seemed to signal her devotion to all things Balenciaga, sitting front row at the brand's Winter 2022 presentation next to Balenciaga CEO Cédric Charbit and Euphoria actress (and Balenciaga muse) Alexa Demie.

But, it was her wardrobe that captured the attention of the media yesterday: a black bodysuit covered in Balenciaga-branded caution/packing tape, which made a "sticky tape-y sound" as she walked. She documented the process on Instagram Stories, with four Balenciaga assistants wrapping her spandex wear and boots in said tape, which took 30 minutes to make. (On the runway, a pre-designed version made an appearance on a model.)

According to the New York Times, Balenciaga creative director Demna explained that the tape was a reference to his childhood dress-up experiments. In addition, the business will be selling rolls of tape in its stores so that customers may personalize their own DIY style.

"I wanted to do something fun, festive and irreverent for the show," Demna told the Times. "It's a lighthearted tribute to my youth."

In Kardashian's own words: "It just felt so Balenciaga and so Demna. It was really entertaining, and I loved it."Kim reportedly stated, “I’m scared it's going to rip when I sit down. Should I just let it go?” Thankfully, it didn't get damaged — as she claimed in her Instagram Story — saying that she was carefully removed from the outfit after the program concluded so that it may be kept in her archives.

Kim Kardashian surprised many fashion circles a few days ago when she was photographed attending her first Prada show in Milan, wearing the label completely while taking photographs with Miuccia and Raf Simons. Was this the beginning of a new post-divorce era in fashion, or was it the end for her Balenciaga style chapter (one that is still indirectly connected to her marriage with Kanye West)?

Not so quickly. On Sunday, the reality star-turned entrepreneur seemed to signal her devotion to all things Balenciaga, sitting front row at the brand's Winter 2022 presentation next to Balenciaga CEO Cédric Charbit and Euphoria actress (and Balenciaga muse) Alexa Demie.

Kid Cudi, And More, Join the Good Ol’ Levi’s 501

The number 16, for example, holds a special place in the life of young actor Matt Damon. Fortune cookies provide some people with luck, while others attain spiritual elevation through their angel numbers. The classic Levi's 501 is, of course, the wonderful old 501 (and remember to always rock this iconic American garment).

Next year, Levi's 501 jeans celebrate their 150th anniversary, and the American denim brand is already in party mode with a star-studded campaign called "The Number That Changed Everything," which promises to reveal "the million dollar number" that changed everything.

To commemorate the brand's 501 denim's timelessness, Levi's invited a slew of tastemakers who represent the creative energy generated by its iconic form.

The collection's imagery is filled with culturally deconstructive figures such as Kid Cudi, designer Tremaine Emory, musician Mike D of the Beastie Boys, model Nathan Westling, creative director and model Gia Seo, The Paranoyds' Staz Lindes, and stylist and editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson.

The 501 has been updated with a new "90s fit" by Levi's, which isn't satisfied with simply repeating the old cut. The relaxed, baggy style of this version is reminiscent of a more casual time, when clothes were more carefree and simple to wear.

The two brands seem to compliment one another. The designs are likewise rooted in the brand's more recent history, which includes a range of branded tees and denim jackets that harken back to pre-Y2K style.

"With denim, nostalgia may provide both attractiveness and comfort," Karyn Hillman, the Chief Product Officer at Levi's, added. "We want to preserve the new 501 '90s jean's aim is to capture what we call a "favorite worn-in pair of jeans from the past." A little more laid-back, midrise, and with just enough bagginess in the leg—simple, easy, and cool."

This isn't even the first time in recent memory that Levi's has enlisted big names to commemorate its illustrious clothing: just last year, it celebrated 501 Day with Naomi Osaka and Jaden Smith. However, there is one number that has had a bigger impact on the global retail industry than any other - and it's still right at the top of its game.

New ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Trailer Teases Patrick Stewart Back as Professor X

The newest trailer for "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," directed by Sam Raimi from Marvel Studios has been released.

The six-minute video, which premiered during Super Bowl LVI and features Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, being arrested and facing a series of characters in an almost court scenario, is now available to stream on YouTube. After a few seconds of silence, the voice of a male that many have assumed is Patrick Stewart reprising his role as X-Men character Professor X says that Doctor Strange should already be aware of the truth. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch continues to suffer the consequences of her actions in WandaVision, telling Doctor Strange, "You break the rules and become a hero. I do it, and I'm declared the adversary. It doesn't seem right."

The film's director, Sam Raimi, has already confirmed that Professor X would be returning for his sequel and Stewart himself announced at the C2E2 convention in Chicago during April 2018 that he was "discussing another project with them which would be a follow up to" his cameo appearance as the character in "Avengers: Endgame".

Sam Raimi has directed the film, which is the first Marvel Studios production to be directed by someone other than the Russo brothers. The actor will portray Stephen Vincent Strange, a former neurosurgeon who becomes one of the most powerful sorcerers in the world after breaking reality on an alternate dimension known as the Multiverse of Madness.

The film also stars Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rachel McAdams. After the success of "Spider-Man: No Way Home," fans have been expecting the sequel to be released shortly after. The first film grossed over $678 million worldwide and it is believed that "Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness" will do a good business as well, given Cumberbatch's popularity as an actor. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to premiere in theaters May 6.

“Imagine Picasso” Debuts in San Francisco

Last year, immersive exhibits were all the rage, with Vincent Van Gogh and the Sistine Chapel among the most sought-after worldwide. That tendency does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon, as a new exhibition dedicated to Pablo Picasso has opened in San Francisco. "Imagine Picasso" is an interactive show that invites visitors to explore the artist's creative process.

The exhibit features a wide range of Picasso's work, from his early sketches to his famous Cubist pieces. It also includes some never-before-seen works, such as a sketch for the 1937 painting "Guernica." In addition to the art itself, the exhibit includes multimedia elements that provide context and insight into Picasso's life and work.

Visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibit at their own pace, and there are several interactive stations where they can try their hand at creating art themselves. "Imagine Picasso" is a fun and informative experience for art lovers of all ages.

"Imagine Picasso," created in collaboration with the Picasso Estate, features more than 200 works by the late Spanish artist in an immersive experience dubbed "the largest collection of Picasso's paintings in one collection ever." Pablo's grandson, Olivier Widmaier Picasso, added, "I think this exhibition would have delighted my grandfather a lot because he was, most of all, a man of individual liberty."

Pablos Picasso is the subject of the experiential exhibition "Imagine Picasso"

Picasso's iconic oil painting Guernica is undoubtedly the most resonant of the works on show. The painting, created in 1937 to represent the horrors of war, is widely regarded as possibly Picasso's most renowned piece, and it is recreated throughout the area, as well as the blood-red hue of the floor. The exhibition debuted in France and Canada before coming to the United States to open at San Francisco's Skylight at The Armory. If you're in the Bay Area, be sure to check out "Imagine Picasso" before it closes in mid-March.

A Closer Look at CLOT’s SS@22 JADED Collection

Edison Chen's CLOT label has launched its Spring/Summer 2022 collection, which continues to pay homage to its heritage. The seasonal collection is inspired by jade, a highly coveted rock with a five-millennia-long heritage in China.

The famed Heshibi to the imperial seal and the jade disc hereditary pendants are thought to convey blessings and protection from above, according to the East's history. The essential cultural markers drive CLOT's newest attempt to blend Chinese heritage with careful modern fashion design, since they are seen as apex expressions of Chinese civilization.

The SS22 collection, dubbed "JADED," features outerwear, shirts, bottoms, accessories, and homeware with symbolic jade elements. T-shirts, coats, slacks, and bucket hats are embroidered with jade discs taken from old ceremonial offerings for blessings of good health and wealth. On top of the CLOT emblem, jade sculptures like as the five claw-dragon—once guarded for emperors—appear on T-shirts and sweaters, and the phoenix motif is elaborately embroidered on the back of field jackets.Aside from designs and graphics in shades of brown, green, lilac, orange, red, and white, the collection also includes tie-dye and multicolor lenticular on knitwear and a cape-like jacket.
