The fourth installment in the John Wick franchise has been delayed yet again. The fourth Matrix film, originally scheduled to premiere alongside Keanu Reeves' other project The Matrix Resurrections in May this year, has been pushed back until the same month of 2023. Lionsgate has delayed the release of its live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast three times since last year. Its current release date is set for March 2021, but it will come out four years later.

Following the conclusion of filming in October, director Christopher McQuarrie presented his stuntmen with Rolexes. The announcement was made without explanation.

Reeves has been playing the title role in the popular assassin franchise since 2014, through three titles: John Wick , John Wick: Chapter 2 and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

John Wick is known for its incredibly high body count, with the previous two installments alone racking up over 283 and 350 deaths respectively - not to mention that Wick himself has killed 22 men in just the first film.

One another note, The Matrix is known for some of the most mind-boggling action scenes ever put on screen, some of them even being choreographed by legendary action director Yuen Woo-Ping.

The Matrix Resurrections is being touted as the final chapter in the science fiction trilogy, with Reeves reprising his role as Neo. The film has already wrapped pre-production work and is due to start filming in 2020. Although there are no confirmed dates yet, it will likely debut sometime in 2021.

Lionsgate Pictures has not commented on the delay.

John Wick 4 stars Keanu Reeves, Halle Berry, Laurence Fishburne, Mark Dacascos, Asia Kate Dillon and Anjelica Huston. The film will be directed by Chad Stahelski, who also co-directed the trilogy’s first two installments with David Leitch. John Wick 4 is set for release on May 21st 2023.
