In the form of a new tattoo, Drake has paid homage to Virgil Abloh, who was a founder and CEO of Off-White and an artistic director for Louis Vuitton, among other things. The latest design, created by GANGA of Los Angeles, is inspired by a famous 2018 photo of Abloh throwing a Louis Vuitton kite down a runway.
Gang member and LA tattoo artist, GANGA, shared an image of the new ink (which appears to be on Drake's arm) with the caption "Not for nothing I love this man so much." That was followed up by another photo depicting Drake's tat alongside the infamous picture of Abloh.
The new ink is a fitting tribute to Abloh, who passed away earlier this year on June 25th. Drake has been known to show some love for the late designer, having previously worn an Off-White x Air Jordan 1 from Virgil himself. Along with that sneaker, Drake was also spotted wearing a pair of the brand's parody Yeezy Runner sneakers.
The tat was done in full color and shows Abloh's face behind what appears to be a Louis Vuitton kite, with two lightning bolts (a symbol commonly used by Virgil) atop his head. The rapper has become widely known for his ink work over the years. In 2016, he went on a tiny tattoo spree with wife and singer/songwriter, Future. Since then, despite having slowing down his ink intake quite a bit, Drake has been adamant about getting new tats from time to time.In April 2018, Drake was one of many to honor Virgil following his death from a reported heart attack. At the time, the rapper posted a photo of Abloh from his Off-White days with the caption "Rest in peace Virgil. We love you forever."
