The groundbreaking Digital Artist from Charleston, South Carolina, Mike Winkelmann, created over 5,000 days of entries for the monumental collage of his pure "digital" artworks. Also known as Beeple, who has been posting and kept on creating new work online since May 2007. Creating one after another, posting images and digital sketches for 13 and a half years. Bringing all those pieces together, creating a collage entitled: EVERYDAY: THE FIRST 5000 DAYS.
“The rules for my Everydays are that they are something done start to finish that day, posted somewhere on the internet before midnight. In the beginning, they were much more abstract, more about color and composition, repetition and stuff like that. Now they’re much more literal and a lot of the time they’re about current events. I recently did a picture about Daft Punk, because Daft Punk just broke up. So things like that are very timely.”- Winkelmann
Hosted by Christie's, It was their first time to auction a pure digital NFT (Non-fungible token) work, having been able to realize at most USD 69,346,250.00. An NFT allows an individual to buy and sell ownership of bizarre digital items and track whoever owns them using the blockchain. Beeple is famously known across social media channels and continues to create new digital works every day.
The 255-year-old auction house has traded some of the most recognized paintings in history, from the only known portrait of Shakespeare created during his lifetime to the last-discovered painting by Leonardo da Vinci. And it set its record selling the work of Winkleman, paving the way to NFTs and digital arts.
"I do view this as the next chapter of art history, Now there is a way to collect digital art."-Winkelman
"NFT stands for "non-fungible token," It can technically include anything digital, may it be drawings, GIFs, songs, or objects in video games. An NFT can either be one-of-a-kind, like a real-life painting, or one copy of many, like trading cards, but the blockchain keeps track of who has ownership of the file."The Verge
